The original material for making work gloves, leather still has its fans due to its softness and breathability, making it comfortable to wear. Its great thermal qualities also explain why it is still used a lot today. The leather can be bovine or goat, be "full grain leather" or "split leather" and be water repellent.
A leather work glove can therefore be used for various risks such as welding, heat or flame protection, cold protection, scratch protection, gardening or forestry and lumberjack special gloves, or simply for checking and handling.

There are many materials available for making a professional work glove. Since each material has its advantages and weaknesses, we have decided to present the main materials used to make a professional glove. This will make it easier for you to choose your protective glove.

Professional leather glove

Leather is a natural material that can be made from different types of skins. There are a large number of professional leather gloves. The choice of leather is essential because each leather has its own level of flexibility and strength. Choosing a leather work glove shouldn't be taken lightly.

Cowhide offers excellent mechanical resistance while being pleasantly flexible.
The mechanical properties of lambskin are very limited. On the other hand, it is a very flexible material. It is very popular for fine handling.
Goatskin offers a good compromise between cowhide and lambskin.

Whatever the origin of the leather, it is composed in the same way. So, to design a glove, one can use:

Full grain leather: it is the outer surface of the dermis
split leather: the inner surface

Full grain leather is thinner than split leather (0.7mm to 0.90mm). It offers great flexibility and excellent dexterity, ideal for jobs that require precision and tact. Full grain leather gloves are therefore suitable for light handling. Split leather is thicker than full grain leather (generally 1.10mm to 1.30mm). It therefore offers good mechanical resistance, which is why split gloves are generally used for heavy handling or as a complement to welding clothing.
